Everyone loves a nice warm knit hat. A hat is a fun project that doesn't take a lot of yarn or time. Hat patterns can vary in their complexity, from simple beanies and toques, to complex lace slouches and cloches. In this directory of hat patterns, we have noted the complexity of the pattern from beginner knitter to advanced.


Seedling Hat

Beginner. Simple slouch style hat.

Gauge: 2.75 stitches per inch or 11.0 stitches per 4 inches.

Lace Beanie

Beginner/Intermediate. Feminine beanie with a lacy textured rib.

Gauge: 4.25 stitches per inch or 17.0 stitches per 4 inches.

Fiddlehead Hat

advanced. Kind of ridiculous looking but fun!


Clapotis Cap

Beginner/Intermediate. Based upon the popular scarf by the same name.

Brimster Hat

advanced. Think Sherlock Holmes when you look at this one.

Beltane Flame Hat


Gauge: 4.25 stitches per inch or 17.0 stitches per 4 inches.


Misty Hat

Beginner. This simple faux-cable hat works up quickly in one skein of Noro Silk Garden on size 7 needles.

Norwegian Sweet Baby Cap / Djevellue

Beginner. A Baby hat with large chevron shaping.

Gauge: 7.0 stitches per inch or 28.0 stitches per 4 inches.

Beginner/Intermediate. A handsome winter hat for a man.


The November Hat


Gauge: 6.0 stitches per inch or 24.0 stitches per 4 inches.

Felted Hat

Beginner. A simple felted hat great for beginning felting.

D'arcy Spice Beret

Beginner. A chunky knit stylish beret.
