Ribbing 1:1 Questions
I am knitting a dog coat that requires an increase in the middle of 47 CO stitches which would be 23. Do I purl or Knit the increase. The pattern also increases 1st at the beginning and end of each row. Do I purl increase at the beginning of the purl row. Knit increase at the K row.
What is the best increase to use for 1:1 ribbing.
Thanks Theresa

If the increase of 23sts occurs on the current row which has 47sts you'll be increasing in every other stitch. You can put the increases in the purl sts or in the knits as you prefer. Or you can do a lifted bar increase between the knit and purl sts. The increases section of Free Videos at the top of the page will show you how.
Yes, for the increases at the beginning and end of the row, do a knit increase on the knit side and a purl increase on the purl side. Check further in the pattern and see if there are stitches picked up along these edges. You might want to put the increases in one stitch from the edges to make it easier to pick up sts. These increases on every row can become very tight depending on how many rows have the increases. You might try the Make 1 away and Make 1 towards on the increase videos if you have to do this for several rows.

Do you mean that you increase 23 stitches or that you increase once in the middle after knitting 23 stitches? Look at the next row of the pattern to see if you continue in ribbing or switch to stockinette. If you do change, then it doesn't matter how you make the increases.

I increase 1 st in the middle after knitting 23 stitches. The next row I continue Ribbing. And I increase 1 st at the beginning and end of the next 5 rows(58 st).

I'd put the single increase in the middle on a purl stitch (RS) because it is least likely to show. If you continue in ribbing, just continue that column of sts as a purl2 on the RS(or knit 2 on the WS). You may want to work the increases at the ends of the rows into the rib pattern as you go along. Take a look at the picture and see if that helps guide you. Can you give us a pattern name or a link to the pattern?
