Hey! Another beginner here. My real name is "Adia" (not pronounced like the song!) and I'm from Maryland. I decided to knit because I wanted a hobby that wasn't too expensive, is portable since I ride the train to work, and that would allow me to continue to learn new skills and start new projects. I also live very close to a neat little shop over the bridge from my house so that I don't have to rely on videos and books to learn. I'm having a blast so far and can't wait to learn more.

Hi! My name is Michelle and I'm another beginner. I've been an elite swimmer (made the world university games three times) for over 15 years, and full-time athlete for the last 2 years after finishing my undergrad and masters in computer science. I've been on a swimming sabbatical for almost 8 months now due to shoulder surgery last summer so after spending weeks watching dvds and boring myself out of my mind I decided to learn to knit. I'm hoping to get in med school next year so this will also give me something relaxing to do.

I'm currently about 2 feet into my palindrome scarf, and waiting on some yarn and needles to knit my sister's Xmas scarf.. I'm most likely using a hot pink Bernat Harmony yarn, haven't decided on the pattern yet but probably wide cables.

Just have to add that this site is awesome!

New Kid on the Block
Hi Everyone!

I am new at knitting. I have made several items just using the knit stitch with one skein of yarn. In my current project I need to join a second skein of yarn, but am not sure how.

Thank you for any help. Look forward to chatting with other on this site soon!

Welcome to Knitting Help everyone!

If you have questions it's best to post them in the forum rather than this thread. More people will see them and they'll get answered more quickly.

When asking questions ALWAYS post the name and a link for the pattern if you have it.

Hi, yep this is the 'greeting' thread but to answer your question...

What I do to join a new end of yarn, is to loosely tie it to the old one, work a few rows then go back and rearrange the knot so it doesn't show and tie it tighter. But that may not work so well for garter stitch. There's a few methods for joining yarn shown on the Tips page.
