Clarification on Pattern Instructions
Hello! I just was trying to knit some gloves as Christmas ornaments and I was a bit confused by these pattern instructions. They stated
"K10, cast on 2 sts, place next 8 sts on stitch holder; k1022 sts. Work even for 9 rows."
I wasn't sure if I was supposed to put the two stitches I cast on onto the stitch holder and if I should knit the stitches before placing them onto a stitch holder. Also, work even for 9 rows means to leave the stitches on the stitch holder and just knit the other stitches correct?
Any input or advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Just put the 8sts on the stitch holder without knitting them. It sounds like you're holding those 8sts for the thumb. So the current row will connect the palm and the back of the hand.
Work even on the 10+2+10sts. For now, just leave the 8sts on the holder. There'll be directions later for working them.
