Knitting for children can be very rewarding. Knitting a children's sweater gives you an opportunity to practice all the same skills required to make a full size adult sweater, without the substantial investment in time or yarn. There are untold numbers of free patterns for knit children's cloths. From sweaters and hats to summer dresses and fall jackets. Patterns range from beginner friendly to advanced.
Beginner. A boxy, cropped cardigan for little girls and boys. Haiku is an easy project for novice knitters.
Beginner. Very easy! Fringe would be great looking for a toddler size; but may be a choking hazard for a baby. Here's a quick video on how to assemble it.
Gauge: 4.5 stitches per inch or 18.0 stitches per 4 inches.
Intermediate. Cardigan and hat.
Gauge: 4.0 stitches per inch or 16.0 stitches per 4 inches.
Gauge: 6.0 stitches per inch or 24.0 stitches per 4 inches.
Beginner. A simple cotton baby cardigan with options to please all newcomers and their parents.
Gauge: 5.0 stitches per inch or 20.0 stitches per 4 inches.
